Loki: Sitka, Alaska
He loves to pose for the camera #mybestfriend Kanat’á: Sitka, Alaska So we went hunting today. Kanat’á loved it. He does this thing though when he’s listening where his normally floppy ears go straight up. It’s hilarious looking. After many attempts. I think I managed to capture the ears. Enjoy! Melvin: Sitka, Alaska Just wanted to share some of are awesome adventures we have been taking! I love having a border collie Melvin was the best decision of my life! I want to let you know how thankful I am to have Blaze (formerly Cam) in my life. From a smart, sassy puppy he has turned into a sweet, sensitive, still smart, delightful "young man." We live in the suburbs where there are no sheep to herd, but we find many ways to engage his brain and body. Every day starts with frisbee-- his job. We go for a walk and then it's time for breakfast. If I say "let's get your dog food," I get only a mild reaction. If I say "let's go feed the cat" Blaze will come running, herd the cat upstairs to where her dishes are, and then lie down in the bed to guard her while she eats. He helps with other chores too. He can open and close the cabinet doors, get the dish soap, turn off the lights, bring the dustpan, carry laundry, and put the empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls in the garbage. Dexter For the first time we tested him under extreme pressure with a hold test. The hold test is me walking into a corner with the sheep while Dexter walked right up on them and held them tightly into the corner without breaking up the group of sheep. (This is the beginning of him learning how to pen and hold the sheep)This test shows the true raw talent of the dog. I have seen many dogs F this up when they get real close to the sheep by charging into the middle biting and breaking up the sheep. Not to mention the owner gets trampled! Dexter not only walked right up to the sheep and held them but two different sheep tried to get away in two different directions and he managed to push them back into the corner with little effort on his part! He did not waver, loose his position, or charge the sheep! It was beautiful! Almost brought a tear to my eye! LOL He did so well with these tests that Terry our instructor has moved Dexter and I into the largest pen with more sheep! She gave him a lot of praise and said he is well ready for it. She said "Dexter is a lot of dog" meaning he will not only go far as a herding dog, he should be really good at it! She explained not all border collies have the amount of natural talent Dexter has. Now I need to catch up to Dexter! LOL Dexter is WAY ahead of schedule to complete his HT 1,2 & 3 tests! Since Dexter needs to be 9 months old to start testing, we still have at least 3-4 months to train. But he is hands down ready right now to pass his HT 1 test! By the time he is 9 months old, he will be able to pass all three with ease! By the time he is one year old, Dexter could very well be earning championship title points! To recap what Terry has said so far; Dexter has great natural balance and a keen eye. Very nice style better then most, he's very tenacious, a little hard ass, and is a lot of dog! I'd say for less then six months old, Dexter is on tract to be herding sheep on Mars! LOL Candice Hello, it's Karley and we purchased Candice may. She's growing up beautifully and already knows all off her toys names and some tricks. Her eye color has deffinatly surprised us also two light green eyes!
